How can you take 11 consecutive days off of work while only using 2 days of vacation? Sandwich those vacation days between 5 holidays and 2 four-day weekends!
The holidays are also a great time to give energy consumption a break too. In order to reduce energy consumption and lower our campus carbon footprint, UMD will operate campus buildings at temperatures lower than usual (65 degrees F) with limited ventilation during the 2009 holiday period.
Campuses across the nation are taking similar energy conservation actions, Efforts at University of Colorado, University of Buffalo, University of Michigan, and Syracuse University have yielded large savings.
If you plan to be on the UMD campus for the two regular work days between December 24, 2009 and January 3, 2010, you may want to celebrate them as ‘Bring Your Sweater to Work' days.
NOTE: Facilities Management intends to provide minimal staffing dependent on campus needs. Please contact facmgt@d.umn.edu if you plan to close or have events planned that will require custodial (staff and/or door opening) services during this period.
